Over the years, many have been drawn into the corporate world in order to survive. Have enough to feed the family and perhaps a vacation once every 3 years. With the years of being trained to take the public transport and squeeze into the crowded train or bus, one might have forgotten something, or rather someone. That someone is self.

Although this was posted 10 years ago on Oprah, it’s still the same. Nothing has changed much. We go through the same process day after day, month after month and year after year while hoping for someone to show us a way out of it. It is said that when we are shown a way out of it, there are times that we are unable to recognise the opportunity.

A young man wished to marry the farmer’s beautiful daughter. He went to the farmer to ask his permission. The farmer looked him over and said, “Son, go stand out in that field. I’m going to release three bulls, one at a time. If you can catch the tail of any one of the three bulls, you
can marry my daughter.”

The young man stood in the pasture awaiting the first bull. The barn door opened and out ran the biggest, meanest-looking bull he had ever seen. He decided that one of the next bulls had to be a better choice than this one, so he ran over to the side and let the bull pass through the pasture out the back gate. The barn door opened again. Unbelievable. He had never seen anything so big and fierce in his life.

It stood pawing the ground, grunting, slinging slobber as it eyed him. Whatever the next bull was like, it had to be a better choice than this one. He ran to the fence and let the bull pass through the pasture, out the back gate.

The door opened a third time. A smile came across his face. This was the weakest, scrawniest little bull he had ever seen. This one was his bull. As the bull came running by, he positioned himself just
right and jumped at just the exact moment. He grabbed but the bull had no tail!

Life is full of opportunities. Some will be easy to take advantage of, some will be difficult. But once we let them pass (often in hopes of something better), those opportunities may never again be
available. So always grab the first opportunity

Via

There are 4 corners of a dollar bill. Imagine them as 4 legs. With 2 legs of ours attempting to run after 4 legs, which will win? Is rushing to work what you had in mind when you first graduated and hoping for a good pay? Is your current job your real passion that you don’t mind rushing off in the morning and returning home late daily?

What are you rushing for?

It is critical to have money when it comes to food and basic necessities. Without money, we can’t do anything, perhaps we used to be able to forage for food but with urbanisation overtaking the forests, we are left with one choice. That is to spend the money, no matter what the amount, on food and transport.

The prices for food and transport are something that we have absolutely no control over. That’s why we are trading our time for money by working for someone whom we may not like. It is a well-known fact that we can’t choose our parents or bosses. We can only choose our destinies.

However, how much time do we have left to trade for money? Hence, the influx of people attempting various methods; from blogging to selling handmade stuff online to reduce the overhead costs.

Yet, which is the one thing that will truly help us gain our freedom? The freedom to wake up at any time, visit exhibitions during weekdays where most people are trading their time for money, enjoy high tea at 3pm to 5pm, ride roller coasters at 10am in Universal Studios, or watch TV the whole day. What makes us use our spare time to work on something for us to be able to buy back our time?

There is so much more to life than we see in our own world that we prefer to see. Maybe it’s the mission in life that we are missing. It’s amazing how game developers keep coming out with objectives to achieve in games. By playing the games, we have something to work towards. How about our lives then? What’s our purpose in life?

Are we walking zombies running in the rat race as Robert Kiyosaki calls it in his board game? We keep going round and round like zombies without a real purpose to complete the race that can never be completed. We just mill around aimlessly with work and family. Dealing with challenges that happen to everyone at different stages in life.

At the end of the day, we keep on doing the same things and hoping for something better. Without changing the routine, how can our lives get better?

Are you walking in life like a zombie?

Many often, standing around the cooler, you hear people talking about how bad their job is. You might have even seen the following below.

Smelling armpits

Toothbrush and toilet paper

The phrase job satisfaction may have been over used to the point where one thinks that the job is the only thing that is going to bring happiness. Factors include feelings, attitude and beliefs that determine our happiness at work. Yet, many might not have good relationship with their bosses and working there only because they have to; not want to.

If the truth be told, it might just mean one thing; paying out $1000 is too much for the company, paid $1000 is too little for the employee. Sometimes, it’s not even about the money either. So, what is job satisfaction?

Maybe being able to commit at work might just mean that recognition that you have contributed how ever small your effort may be, to the company. Humans have this raw need to be praised and affirmed that their purpose at a certain place is worth it. Time is precious. No one else in this world has more than 24 hours per day.

Often, we play games to pass the time. If we notice just a little bit more, we might find the game’s objectives clearer. The game developers have designed the game such that the game play is fixed in terms of objectives, such as rescuing a person in the game, completing all the stages without using any game lives, and much more. All of the games have a common goal; to let the player work towards the game’s objectives.

If games have objectives, what about your life? Do you have an objective for your life? Are your career paths planned by you or by someone else? If they are planned by someone else, is there anything you can do about it? We came to earth for some purpose. Without a purpose, we start dying inside.

One of the driving engines behind our motivation to live on is our dreams. Focus on Your Dream tells us precisely how we live our lives when we don’t have dreams and goals to live for. A cycle that haunts us more than our hopes when we talk and live negatively. That’s when dying starts.

How you live your life is completely up to your decision. What’s your game plan for life?

Until you value yourself, you won’t value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it. ~ M. Scott Peck [Source]

Once we are born, we are valuable to our parents. Our parents take it upon their responsibilities to make sure that we get the best, so that we can enjoy lives better than they did. They hated the lives they had because they were slogging so hard to make ends meet. Hence, their wishes for us is so as to ensure we have better lives.

After completing school and entering the corporate world in hopes of repaying our parents for their hard work, we realise that our worth isn’t decided by us. The company decides how much the job is worth and we have to take it or leave it. That’s why there are so many yearning or being their own bosses so that time is decided by them.

Time is most precious to us because we don’t know when we will repay them. Our time on earth has an expiry date that we can’t see. We just leave like that when the Lord calls for us. We know how much time we have spent but we may not have spent the time doing things that are worth our value.

Our value has always been decided by others. Yet, we are always seeking for something. After a while in the corporate world, we lost ourselves. We think that we want this but in our hearts, we want something else. Year after year, we chase for something that we can’t seem to reach.

Change is inevitable – except from a vending machine. ~ Robert C. Gallagher [Source]

What happens in life is change but how willing to change are you? The things that surround us is the comfort zone. The place where we feel safe as it is familiar. Due to the familiarity, we tend to take it with such ease that we forget about certain dreams in life that were somehow buried by other things that took over. There are times when we have this need to have what we want in life but because of fear, we compromise ourselves.

In order to survive this life, there are some who take on multiple careers. That’s because no one is indispensible in any job. As long as someone who can do it cheaper, better, faster than you, you are out of the company before you can say “I’m in a permanent job.” How permanent is a job, really? When recession comes, who will be out of a job first? No one can really tell.

When it’s recession, is it the right time for a career change? Have we listened to our inner selves or have we neglected that? What was it that made us complete a degree? Was it the hopes of having a better salary? Was it the hope of changing the career path to something that we like? Did we change to a job because it looked interesting?

With change moving so fast, how permanent is our jobs? What’s the meaning of permanent? The dictionary states that:

existing perpetually; everlasting, esp. without significant change.

Yet, we are seeing changes. Changes that scare us and immobilise us and we live in regrets by following the mass that live the life of mediocrity.

Can you handle the change?

Many of us had dreams as young as 5 years old. Perhaps we saw that brave firefighter carrying so many people to safety or that courageous policeman who chased and caught a robber despite weapons pointing at him. Later, as we grew up, we let go of our dreams. Shrinking them because many of our loved ones tell us, “Oh, forget it. You can’t do it. It’s too difficult.”

With so much disbelief we have collected over the years, we start to believe that we are useless and much better off being mediocre. However, is that what our heart really yearn for? To compromise or shrink our dreams to the size of what people thought of us?

When we meet a total stranger and the stranger encouraged us, we suspect that the stranger is trying to take advantage of us. But what does the stranger really gain from us since we are so mediocre and broke? With nothing to gain from us, why does the stranger even believe in our capabilities in the first place?

Brian Tracy’s Flight Plan highlights how we can overcome ourselves and plan for the success that we have in mind. Our minds are so cluttered with negative thoughts that we forget that we do need positive encouragement to move forward in life. Everyone likes a little belief from someone, especially their loved ones, so that they know that they aren’t useless and deserve to disappear from the surface of the earth instantly.

Planning for success is planning for the future. A future that everyone would like to have and imagined by using the tips from The Secret. Combine Flight Plan and The Secret, you have equipped yourself for the first step towards your defined success that you have always hoped for.

No one likes to be taken advantage of and it is a terrible feeling especially when your loved ones are the ones who take advantage of you. If strangers do that, it’s easier to walk away but how does one walk away from families and friends?

Sometimes, we build our own invisible castles and may become cynical of anyone who simply is being real nice to you without any motives. However, we are being taken advantage of daily without realising it. We go to work because we need to, not because we love to. Those who love their work are the ones who can do it for free.

In some ways, we make use of people to our benefits; to get that position at work, to find a decent paying job, to get that spouse, and just about other things. Including getting something cheaper.

Are you being taken advantage of?

Think positively and masterfully, with confidence and faith, and life becomes more secure, more fraught with action, richer in achievement and experience. ~ Swami Vivekananda ~ [Source]

Life has given us many opportunities but do we see their value or the surface level? We do know that we may not live to be a centurian. We do know that we want to be living as healthy as possible so that we can enjoy our old age. However, our health isn’t secure if we don’t take good care of it. While there are cases where some do live till their 80s and doing the vices but how many can state with confidence and security that you will be doing the same things without any health issues?

In order to take care of part of our inflating expenses as we age, we take up life term policies in hopes that we will be well taken care of. However, sometimes, companies do close down due to the main reason, bankrupcies. We won’t know for sure which are truly the ones we would like to be having some form of customer relationships with since they are all our to suck our money dry while telling us that we will get the money back when we are 6 feet deep or handicapped. Are those really the time we would want the money?

Having life security is when we won’t have to worry about the minor things in life like how should we pay for our children’s increasing education fees. What does having a secure life mean to you?
