Choose to Be Happy

April 16, 2009 | 3 Comments

Often people attempt to live their lives backwards; they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want, so they will be happier.  The way it actually works is the reverse.  You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want.  ~Margaret Young ~ [Source]

When you wake up, what are your first thoughts? Do you choose to dread or be happy? During this turbulance time when almost everyone you know is having a pay cut or retrenched or even business failing, are you happy that you still have a job despite the difficulties faced?

When some troubles seem too huge for us to handle, we fear them and will try to dump everything to someone else and hope that the trouble will go away. However, a few days or weeks later, the same trouble comes again. This time, we have to handle it. Are we happy to be able to have a solution for solving it since the someone else had shown us how to do it the last time?

Ever had this problem that felt so huge that all you wanted to do was to go to bed and wake up hoping that it will go away? After you wake up, the solution comes to your mind and the problem didn’t feel so huge anymore. Sometimes, hanging our troubles at the Trouble Tree helps.

A great way to enjoy what you have is keep to use the power of small-enjoy the little things. Keep a running list of 5 daily positives or accomplishments. It’s wonderful to take some time out of your day to boost your mood. There’s a great book coming out this month called The Power of Small that has great tips like these. It’s by Linda Kaplan Thaler and Robin Koval.
