This is what I am. I have periods of enormous self-destructive depression, where I go completely off my trolley and lose all sight of reality and reason. ~ Siobhan Fahey ~ [Source]

When one loses all hope, one can be self-destructive and refuses to listen to logic and be rational. A girl has been in a relationship for 2 years. Recently, her boyfriend starts to test if she is a flirt by asking his friend to pose as some guy who is interested in her and see if she would flirt back. She did a little and got a scolding by the boyfriend.

The guy would always want to meet her at his place every single day and she would take a taxi to his place without fail despite the hefty fares. He would never pay for her fares at all, not even half of it. The girl believes that her first love would last forever perhaps due to her age of being 18 and believing in fairy tale endings.

She would always think it’s her fault even when the guy is going out with another girl by hugging and holding hands. She believes that the girl is just acting as she has a boyfriend. She believes that it was her fault when the guy is trying means and ways to make her break up with him so that he doesn’t have to handle her tears.

Is the girl being self-destructive by believing that his love would never die for her or just being delusional?

Take for example another person who had gone through an obstacle in life, a messy divorce. He starts to drink on a daily basis by mixing Chivas, Coke and other cocktails. He confides with his close friend who shares the shoulder to lean on. However, he continues drinking throughout the day despite advices from friends who care about him to take hold of himself.

When one is feeling low, life seems to be meaningless. One starts to think that there is nothing worth in life any more since the family doesn’t care, the work doesn’t get done, everything just doesn’t hold any meaning and worth.

If you know that something is wrong with a friend or closed one, would you try to help them? If you know that you truly need help, how would you help yourself?
