Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that is the stuff life is made of. ~ Benjamin Franklin ~ [Source]

There are times we wished to have more hours in a day. However, it doesn’t help if we can’t manage our time in an effective manner. Time wasters include playing games online or off, talking on the phone about anything under the sky, or sleeping too much for a day.

In the office, switching on the computer takes some time, so why not take this opportunity to fill up your water instead of sitting at the desk twiddling your thumbs while the computer boots up? These days, web browsers are upgraded to the point that one browser is able to open up many tabs. Make use of these tabs while looking for the information you need.

Emails are part and parcel of our lives now that almost everyone you know uses it. Skim through the list and reply to those that need immediate attention. Skip those forwarded mails by colleagues if they can be read at another time. Even better, make sure that the office email contains nothing but official emails instead of jokes and heart-rendering stories forwarded by friends. There are so many free web mails online, tell your friends to forward to that personal email account instead.

Students often lament that they don’t have time to study and burning the midnight oil doesn’t help much either. Study in blocks so that you get a break every now and then for your mind to absorb the materials. Schedule weekly reviews and updates so that you won’t miss out anything.

Working from home means you forget about watching your time. Kids demand your attention and you simply can’t get any work done. Why not tell them about the rules and stick to them so that they will learn to ask something from you when you put up a sign for example?

Sometimes, multitasking is bad. Our human brains can only process a few things at a time. Cooking while looking after a crying baby is a bad example. The same goes for opening too many windows and tabs in the web browser. The system will start to slow down and your time is lengthened instead of being shortened for the wait.

What other tips do you have for managing your time more effectively?
