Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive. ~ Howard Thurman ~ [Source]
Taking a change towards your career path is a major and sometimes, scary, decision for everyone. Life can throw us unexpected obstacles. We learn something along the way. There are people who have five-year plans and follow them to the dot. This gives them a sense of achievement as they complete the tasks they have in the plan.
There are others who don’t have such a plan and live life as if it is their last day. How you choose to life your life doesn’t matter as long as you live it to the fullest. During the times when life give us something that we don’t want, we shun it.
We want that particular job position so much that we go all the way out to get it. Once we are in the position, we realised something that was staring at us all the time. It was always missed out and now that we are in the position, we have to overcome it.
A friend decided to take on the glamourous job of an air stewardess, a dream of hers. Upon taking it, the excitement of flying was in the air. After a year, she realised that an air stewardess’ job isn’t as glamourous as it sounded. It was full of obstacles and politics among the cabin crew that did it. It was also tiring to fly immediately a day later for another 18-hour flight. There was no time to catch up with friends as the schedules were different.
The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. To experience different scopes, there is a handful who network with various people from all walks of life. They spoke to managers working in different industries, entrepreneurs with new startups, mothers working full time, and cleaners.
For some, they just want to have a job that is able to feed the family. Others want to be able to climb up the corporate ladder fast. Their expectations differ and even more doing the job because they have tons of bills to pay while the job isn’t what they love. They complete the job because it is able to pay the bills.

An advice was once given, “If you don’t like the job, don’t just shun it. If it pays your bills, find time to do the stuff that you do like so that life won’t seem so boring or tedious after work.” It can mean adding colours to your life so that you won’t feel that life is tedious or boring. It can a also mean that you don’t regret living life the way you have.
As Forrest Gump once said, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you gonna get.”
What did life give you and if it wasn’t what you wanted, how did you cope with it?
