There’s no such thing as a free lunch. ~ Milton Friedman ~ [Source]

In life, there are so many sales going on that proclaims free bags, perfumes, or other items after spending a certain amount of money. Other lures such as free laptops, Coke or items are being given out on this date at this time are often used in marketing techniques.

Sometimes, there are people who are so busy looking for the free stuff that they will queue up at this certain time and place just to get that item for free. What’s so fascinating is because there isn’t any real work done except queueing up for maybe half a day just to get a luxurious free bag for example.

A Chinese saying goes this way, “There is no such thing as you don’t put in the effort and still get rewarded for it.” This can be applied to anything in life. You have to get up in the morning and go to the office to work in order to get your salary. In school, you have to study and put in a certain number of hours before you are allowed to take the exam. In addition, studying for the exam is part of the process that leads you to get a passing or distinction for that module.

No lecturer or teacher will ever give the student distinctions for just writing down their names on the exam paper. It’s as good as bribery which also requires some effort. While the debate for free software is something that is truly debatable, think about the efforts and time that the programmers have put in.

It is always human nature to want to be rewarded for something that they have put in the effort for. If you want to be paid for the work that you have put in, you would expect some form of compensation, right?

What freebies have you received without having to really do something for them?
